MGB GT too small, P1800 too dear? Then see if this selection of classic sports carry-alls fits the bill and your budget

In house rival to the MGB GT, the pert and pretty little Triumph GT6 is a fine GT, being sweet, smooth and swift and quite different from the Spitfire it’s largely based upon – although handling is a bit dicky, especially on pre-Mk3 cars when pushed a bit. The GT6 was called the ‘beginner’s E-type’ when it was launched, care of its similar looks and a smooth six pot engine, but the MGB GT is a lot roomier, handles more predictably and is a real 2+2 as most GT6s came sans the rare optional rear seat that’s only good for kids anyway.
