You need a ‘six’ or V8 to make a coupé go as well as it looks! Here’s a delightful dozen to consider; all prices relate to typical average-to-good examples

Initially known as the ‘Celica XX’ in Japan and Supra over here, essentially it’s a bigged-up Celica sporting a six-pot engine that was launched in 1982, just as Ford was winding down its V6 Capri. Supra has similar character and thrills as that Ford but with more sophistication. Initially, a 2.6-litre engine for up to 178bhp but the turbo on later versions, saw power rise to 232bhp and jump to a massive 326bhp in the fourth generation twin turbo (1993-02). Despite heavy rusting, all Supra derivatives are becoming classics worth keeping, the main trouble is finding an unmolested example as they are popular drift cars and there’s a fair amount of custom bling for them as well.
