Surely a Classic in the Making Before too Long?

In many ways the Toyota MR2 is a strange car. Launched during the height of the hot hatch era, it was just as symbolic and mouldbreaking yet this mid-engined sports car, that’s as easy to own and maintain as a Corolla we hasten to add, still has yet to make it as a classic after 30 years. There’s three generations; the first looks like a motorised shark, the second a baby Ferrari and the third (pictured), which was produced until a decade ago, a pseudo Porsche Boxster. All are as user-friendly and as enjoyable as an MX-5 but the Mk1s can suffer from severe rust. Like the Mazda, there’s also a thriving racing series for them.
