You need a ‘six’ or V8 to make a coupé go as well as it looks! Here’s a delightful dozen to consider; all prices relate to typical average-to-good examples

AN EIGHT MAKES ONE GREAT

£3000

You can argue that if the TR7 had stayed in production longer, and the TR8 had been properly launched (only a handful of UK models were sold), then it would have become the modern Big Healey.

The Triumph was always designed with the evergreen Rover V8 in mind and converted TR7-V8s are plentiful plus make great value buys – so long as the conversion, of which dedicated kits are available, was done well. TR8s are rightly worth the most even though the engine was detuned and ran on softer springs. You can make a TR7 into a better car, coupé or convertible, if you want to.
