Best of both worlds
The TR5 could hardly be called modern even when new but this was a classic right from the start. The fuel-injected 2.5-litre straight six was fast for its day and a good, well tuned one still is, but the handling is real scruff-of-the- neck stuff, which many like, it must be said. The more angular TR6 replacement is plentiful although many featured a slightly detuned (125bhp) engine; easily rectified or improved upon if desired. Prices for better-than- average examples are shooting up and with this Triumph you generally get what you pay for but spares and support are some of the best around.
BEST MODEL: TR5 (O/D)
