We can’t see the appeal of a standard Corolla (although many did in the 1980s) so the real interest lies in the brace of totally separate GTs offered during the mid part of the decade. There’s the bigger selling front-wheel drive hatchback which, in 130bhp twin cam 1.6 GT tune, gave an XR3 a run for its money, or the rarer – pictured – AE86 (a production name relaunched for the latest Coupé) which was rear-wheel drive! As you can imagine, this one is much sought after for drifting and things and as a result sell for five figure sums – when one crops up – whereas you can buy a decent FWD GT for a tenth of this…
