HANDLE IT
The B’s biggest issue has always been handling especially rubber bumper cars. A lowering kit is be in the region of £200-250 (or £32.50 from the MGB Hive to remove the suspension blocks!). Telescopic damper conversion kits plus parabolic springs is worthy of £400 and you can fit ‘teles’ to the front for £299 from the MGOC; uprated lever arms cost just £22 each. Anti roll bars cost between £100-£120.
B STING
More power can be had more cheaply than you’d think. An MGF engine can be sourced for £250, and a Ford Type 9 gearbox from £250 upwards. That leaves £600 to spend on tidying the conversion up. If you want to stick with the B-Series better air filters, a sportier exhaust and manifold, rejetted carbs is a good way to spend around £600. We’d splash out on the suspension and mild engine tweaks first.
