A great late example can be picked up from as little as £1600 and insurance is the lowest I’ve found for large saloon cars.
Parts are cheap, like all MGs, those 17” alloys and a discreet boot spoiler give the saloon great street presence, especially on the facelifted models. The option of air conditioning and full leather trim make this a great cool cruiser. So, why is this at number 9 you ask? Well, to keep insurance low the 1.8-litre 120bhp version is mandatory as the V6 versions push premiums up and the fuel economy becomes woeful. As the engine is the Rover K-series unit, the car suffers with all the usual problems of head gasket failure and weak water pumps. The ZT still has that slight whiff of an old man’s Rover but it’s okay.
