Nothing beats a prestigious saloon for arriving in style. And there’s no shortage of some great classics – old and modern – to suit all tastes and budgets, as this delightful diverse dozen proves
SOULFUL SALOON
Who else but the Italians can make a four-door saloon sound so sexy? Yet that’s essentially what the Quattroporte means. Introduced in 1963, as you’d expect, it’s not as comfy or as refined as a Roller but are a lot more fun! To our minds, the best of the lot is the Quattroporte V that was launched in 2003 but the previous generation from 1993 aren’t bad either. Fast, refined and delightfully discreet, the Maserati also offers a genuinely sporty drive thanks to Ferrari power and general DNA. Projects for older models kick off for around £2000 and given the price and scarcity of parts it may be wise to buy a basket just for the sound bits that remain. The Quattroporte V can be bought for the price of a good Silver Shadow – and will put a smile on your face.
