Taking a leaf out of Volvo’s book, Jensen, faced with dropping the Healey connection, discarded the original sports car for an upmarket GT sportshatch that was a great up-to-date replacement for the MGB GT. Still Lotus powered and now helped with a Getrag fivespeed gearbox to aid cruising, the GT had most of the J-H’s numerous ills finally ironed out. Sadly, it came too late to save Jensen and less than 500 were made – which makes it a classic in anyone’s books – and a fine one for those after prestige with practicality.
