If you thought that there’s no modern traditional sports car around then you obviously haven’t heard of the Honda S2000. Traditionally designed, with an in-line engine and rear-wheel drive, it’s one of the best sports car ever made, with a terrific rev-happy 2-litre engine giving out a screaming 250bhp allied to entertaining handling. You could say it’s an MX-5 for grown-ups and it boasts that same usability and dependability – and all from £6000. £14,000 gets a last-of-the-line 2009 car from a main dealer, the safest place to buy one. The only fly in the ointment is the car’s high Co2 rating and subsequent VED tax bands.
