“The car you always promised yourself” has really taken off lately and prices for some models can beat those of the iconic RS Escorts. Capri was a brilliant marketing ploy of style over substance, driving little better than the Cortina saloons they were broadly based upon (V6s excepted) but character to spare, plus now benefit from a good specialist and club back up. Almost two million were made and there are large numbers left not to pay silly prices. Only the V6s provide real behind-the-wheel thrills but all have their merits.
