Mighty mouse for the rat race
Has there ever been a more cute city commuter than the original 500, the mini that came along before our Mini? In terms of packaging and roominess there is little to choose from although the Fiat, with its twin-cylinder air-cooled engine is no road burner and the handling isn’t as kart-like as the famous BMC brick. But the Fiat oozes taste and a few mods such as a Fiat 126 engine and uprated brakes, soon makes one ready to take on today’s roads. The range also includes the tuned Abarth versions (now highly collectible and very expensive), the larger 600 and the people-carrier Multipla. A sunroof is a boon and many are so fitted.
