A CLASS APART
Much more than simply a coupé version of the Mulsanne Turbo saloon, the Continental is a worthy modern alternative to the Aston DBS or Jensen Interceptor yet just as classical, thanks to its Shadow-based underpinnings that admittedly now has its work cut out to handle this fast GT. That famous V8 with its 335bhp goes like an Aston in turbo form, especially the brawnier 420bhp S and T offshoots and the handling is pretty similar. As different as chalk and cheese to the VW-based GT alternative, owners prefer one or the other but rarely both. Still good value and this earlier ‘Conti’ is considerably cheaper to repair than the complex GT.
