IS IT YOUR CHANCE TO OWN AN ASTON MARTIN?
Whether or not the DB7 is indeed just a Jag in drag is not the point. True, this Aston is heavily based upon the Jaguar XJ-S (as is the XK8) but the Tom Walkinshaw Racingdeveloped DB7 is as different as chalk and cheese and that Le Mans winning TWR outfit gives the Aston racing heritage – even though Walkinshaw scored his victories in a Jag! Because most steer towards the V12, the original supercharged six (which specialists feel is the more thoroughbred) is great value (for an Aston) at around £20,000 and unlike the XK8 can be had as a manual although few were. If values go the way of other Astons, then the DB7 will drift out of the reach of many of us so if you want one then don’t delay. Convertibles are worth the most but don’t drive as tautly as the coupé. Despite its upmarket persona, the DB7 wasn’t built especially well (mostly early models) and worst of all rust proofing was minimal – and non existent on later models so don’t be surprised to see rot. DB7s generally dearer to keep than an XK8 but most Jag specialists can maintain the six pot cars.
