WHERE’S THE COBRA CONNECTION?
The 3000ME was a strange sports car that took too long in making. First shown in 1973 yet didn’t make it into the showrooms until the end of the decade, the 3000ME never became the entry-level AC as planned and just 100 or so were made. A clever mid-engined design using Ford Capri V6 power, it looked much like the original Toyota MR2, which surfaced just as the AC was being dropped, while the ME’s price meant most chose an Esprit instead. Good performance but the handling wasn’t sorted enough by launch-time. Given the car’s rarity, values remain surprisingly cheap and there’s a high survival rate along with very enthusiastic club support.
