BEST MODEL: 4.0
Jaguar’s other coupé, the XJ-S, is probably a cheaper buy but it’s not as roomy or accommodating as the XJC. In production for some 20 years, the ill starred XJ-S only really came good in the latter stages of its long life, after the 1991 revamp but the XJ-S still remains – and will always be – a bit of a Marmite classic even though the 4-litre models have little to apologise for thanks to an engine that boasts V12-like power, reasonable economy and renowned Jaguar refinement. Lack of owner care means that there are far too many shabby cats around but good ones are starting to sell for serious money. And with an XJ-S you invariably get what you pay for.
