THE TRUE MODERN HEALEY?
You can argue that if the TR7 had stayed in production a few years longer and the TR8 had been properly launched (only a handful of UK models were sold), then we would have had a modern Healey enthusiasts yearned for. Those odd fixed-head looks were transformed once the roof was cut off (done one lunchtime at the factory so it is rumoured!) while the bodyshell was always designed with that evergreen Rover V8 in mind. Converted TR7-V8s are plentiful and make great value buys so long as the conversion was done well. US TR8s are around but the engine is detuned and the chassis settings softened. Watch the values soar for a good original TR8 over the next few years – so buy now!
