This was the 16-valved sports saloon that, when launched in 1973, made an Alfa Romeo or BMW look overrated and overpriced. And considering how cheap this Triumph remains little has changed over those 42 years although one reason for this is due to the Sprint’s lack of long distance stamina.
Rust and problems with that ‘half Stag’ engine (albeit with half the hassles!) saw to that but a good well restored Sprint (few are original) is a pleasing performer although not as refined as you’d expect. Most can be bought for well under nine grand. Overdrive is essential while autos lack sparkle.
