Like the Capri, Renault’s Fuego (which replaced the earlier razor-styled 15/17) was based on a humble saloon,in this case the competent 18. Rounded and distinctive looking, with a Porsche 924 like hatch, this Renault was the first car to come with a ‘plipper’ remote central locking, and was also Europe’s best selling coupé, beating both Ford and Opel. Fastest Fuego was the rare and rapid 132bhp Turbo, but all go well, with tidy handling. Cheap to buy, too!
