You need a ‘six’ or V8 to make a coupé go as well as it looks! Here’s a delightful dozen to consider; all prices relate to typical average-to-good examples
A CUT ABOVE THE REST?
£6000 (SE4)
Think of Scimitars and the GTE always springs to mind, but what about the earlier SE4 coupé that preceded it? Featuring the beefier Zodiac 2.5-litre straight six, this fastbacked Scimitar makes a good GT classic and their rarity are pushing prices up. GTEs are far more plentiful and, it has to be said, the better car not least thanks to their sportshatch versatility. Pre-1975 GTEs are the most sporting of the range as afterwards they became bigger and flabbier but all offer value for money and a fine owners’ club for support.
