Reliant’s GTE invented the sportshatch and in its day was a high class sports holdall that was a true BMW and Alfa alternative; today, they can still be used as a viable daily driver – ask HRH Princess Anne! In several respects, Tamworth’s effort was better than the Capri it shared so much mechanically with thanks to its superior rear suspension and the option of overdrive.

Pre-1975 cars are the more sporting becaue afterwards they became bigger and flabbier but all offer quite astonishing value for money and a fine owners’ club for support and spares.
