Nothing beats a prestigious saloon for arriving in style. And there’s no shortage of some great classics – old and modern – to suit all tastes and budgets, as this delightful diverse dozen proves
REFINED ROCK & ROLLER
If you want a big 50’s car that doesn’t totally drive like one then these gigantic Jags are for you. As luxurious and majestic as a Rolls of the same era, the big MkVII-IX feels like a family-sized XK140 in comparison. That’s not surprising because essentially that’s what this saloon is although these aren’t sports cars to throw around corners even if these gigantic Jags acquitted themselves well in motorsport! Some models had a bench front seat for six-seater potential. Many parts are special to these saloons making them expensive to restore properly. Once dirt cheap to buy, but top cats can now match and exceed Mk2 values although you should still get a good one for £20,000.
