I know that it might have been an obvious choice, but it’s obvious for a reason.

More than 55 years on, the classic Mini can give us kids as much fun motoring as it did for our parents and they are just as cool now as they were in their heyday. Insurance is cheap as you’d expect as are general running costs. Minis aren’t fast in a straight line but they handle like a go-kart and great for nipping about around town. Many of the original models are now too expensive, so look to a later. Rover Mini (shown), where they pack 1275ccs of power and nicer interiors. The Beatles, Steve McQueen, Kate Moss, Twiggy and Britt Ekland all owned Minis. Cool is ageless.
